Fe is for, Felicity

A fun way to decide on a quick day trip is to wake up and each pick a letter. A-Z His letter was F – mine was E. So I looked for a suitable city within our state that started with F and had a second letter of E. Only (1) one town in our State of Ohio. The Village of Felicity. I chose this for our destination for the day and built a quick day trip around that town.

1st STOP – Mineral Springs Lake

Located in Peebles, Ohio is a wonderful natural lake full of rejuvenating minerals. I am not sure why most in our state or Southern Ohio have never heard of this. But one soak in the water is said to have healing powers. Increased circulation, lower blood pressure, clears up skin conditions, and somehow lifts your spirits. It is easily accessed by the Camping Resort, that offers loads of activities for families & outdoorsy types. Or you can just stop in and sit a while, enjoy the lake scenery, soak your feet and just breathe.

2nd STOP – Merande – Nixon Winery

We proceeded to Ripley Ohio and stopped at an impressive winery. The Merande Nixon Winery has acres of grapes grown right on their property. They have red and white wines and offer a great selection on their wine tasting. Try the Redcock Red Wine, aged in Bourbon Barrels. Check out their hours for tasting, tours, and events: www.merande-nixonwinery.com

3rd STOP – The Village of Felicity

The history of the Village of Felicity dates back to early 1800’s. It has a rich history the settlement was once the 2nd largest in Clermont County. The town was often a stop for those seeking freedom in the north. Felicity has two sites noted on the National Registry of Underground Railroad. Nestled in the farming community, this once bustling town of merchants, and industry is now a quiet small hometown situated along St Rt 222, 133 & 756.

4th STOP – New Hope Covered Bridge

This stop caught my attention, based on the name. I had just finished a book based in a fictional town of New Hope, so I had to add this to our day trip. It is old covered bridge, no longer open for traffic, over a small stream. The fall views were very pretty and I am quiet certain it is great local spot for photographers and family portraits. A little ran down but worth the stop. This is located along Ross Rd in Bethel, Ohio.

5th STOP – Bardwell Winery

Bardwell Winery is located in Mt Orab, Ohio. We were pleasantly surprised with their menu. Having only had a cheese and cracker plate at Merande- Nixon Winery we were quite hungry from our little road trip. Bardwell did not disappoint. What a unique little restaurant/winery to stumble upon. A great friendly atmosphere, offered us just the perfect quaint romantic dinner. I would recommend you stopping in for dinner and a wine flight! Check out their offerings at: bardwellwinery.com

6th STOP – Buckskin Salem Covered Bridge

This photo does not do it justice. I was so surprised to find this covered bridge a working bridge you could drive thru. If your timing works out, it is really special at night. The decorative lights just makes it all worth while. The bridge is located along 3947 Lower Twin Rd in Greenfield, OH
