October is Pumpkin Show time in Circleville. Whether you are heading to the yearly Pumpkin Show, Oct. 18 -21, 2017, or just looking for a fun day trip in Circleville, follow my day trip below or check out what all there is to see and do.
- Lindsey’s Bakery – 127 W Main St – Circleville, OH (Open: Mon-Fri 6a-5:30p Sat 6a-4:30p Sun Closed)
Famous Lindsey’s Bakery – See the largest Pumpkin Pie Pan displayed in the lobby, purchases yummy donuts, cookies, pies & cakes. The Pumpkin Donuts are just the best.
2. Downtown Murals – 150 W Main St & 116 E Main Street
After getting your donuts take a stroll down Main Street. Painted on the side of downtown buildings, you will find Murals by Eric Henn, a Circleville native. The paintings are so lifelike, it’s often hard to distinguish between the painting and the actual sky. These make great photos, angled just right and you become part of the scene. Downtown you will also pass unique shops and boutiques.
3. Brick Streets & Beautiful Buildings – Brick Road is just one block south of Main St travel East on Franklin Street, Courthouse at Court & Franklin Street & Castle Inn at Court & Corwin
Just south of Main Street and you will come across historic Brick Paved Roads & Beautiful Architecture. As a kid visiting family, I was always intrigued by the brick roads in Circleville.
4. Pumpkin Patch Market – 603 E Main Street (Seasonal Hours Vary, typically 9a – 6p)
Continue West on Main Street to the Pumpkin Patch Farm Market, this is a great stop for seasonal fruits and vegetables, as well as pumpkins, cornstalks, and **LAURELVILLE Apple Cider.
5. Amvets – 818 Tarlton Road, Circleville, OH (attraction located outside, available during any daytime hours)
Stop by and see the Thunderchief F-105, a fighter-bomber plane, flown by an area native. You can walk around the place, visit the memorial, and it has play equipment for the kids.
** Family members will notice the Barthelmas name sake. There is also a Barthelmas Park in Circleville with a modern play area and fields for soccer and softball. Land Donated by our relatives. **
6. Logan Elm Historical Site – 3292 OH 361, Circleville, OH (Open Daylight hours, generally 9a-5p)
A peaceful, tranquil park full of history. You will find multiple monuments with historic information on the significance of the Logan Elm, the roles Chief Cornstalk and Logan played in the peace treaty. This is a little known spot, off the beaten path that complete with a shelter house and beautiful scenery. A place to get away by yourself or to go to enjoy history with the kids, this a wonderful place.
7. Rax Restaurant – 24585 US-23, Circleville, OH
Need a place for a quick lunch. Try the Iconic Rax. Circleville has a few a fast food restaurants from your youth. Grab a Roast Beef Sandwich at Rax or Fried Fish from Captain D’s or a juicy Hardee’s Cheeseburger. All these places are still operating in Circleville along US-23, some travel from Columbus just to enjoy these old time favorites. **Family members, you know who you are**
8. Pumpkin Water Tower – 450 Town Street, Circleville, OH
You can’t miss seeing the famous Pumpkin Water Tower. As mentioned on many distinguished travel sites, the pumpkin water tower stands proud over Circleville. Stop by and get your picture here.
9. Wittich’s Candy Shop – 117 W High St, (Rear), Circleville. M-F 9:30a-5:30p Sat 9a-5p
A little known gem found right here in Circleville, Ohio, the oldest Family Owned & Operated Confectionery in America. Wittich’s offers hand made chocolates, fudge and candies, as well as an ice cream parlor. You can also purchase over 80 flavors of Jelly Belly Beans, old fashion candy favorites, and custom boxed candies and gifts.
10. Mary Virginia Crites Hannan Park – 1230 Pontius Rd, Circleville, OH 43113
A great park for exercise for the entire family including the dog. Park with multiple shelter house, once even enclosed. Summer time Splash Pad for the kids, lots of playground equipment, outdoor exercise equipment and bike/walk/run path and even (2) separate fenced in dog parks.
11. Hargus Lake & A. W. Marion State Park – 7317 Warner Huffer Road, Circleville, OH
Hargus Lake is a great spot to fish, picnic, rent a boat, launch your own boat, hike, or just enjoy the views. Ample bank area to fish with your buddies or kids, roped off swim area, miles of hiking trails, bike and dog friendly. Seasonal Catfish tournaments, bait house, and boat rental, these items are available during the Spring and Summer months only. However, the Fall & Winter months are equally as beautiful here.
12. Tootles Pumpkin Inn Pub – 117 E Main Street, Circleville, OH
Tootles is one of the most well known bars in Circleville. Known for their great live music, creative selection of beers & liquor and hometown atmosphere, Tootles is a must stop.
